Mongan Institute for Health Policy founded

1998

The Mongan Institute of today was launched in 2016, but the Institute has a history at MGH spanning over two decades.

The Mongan Institute for Health Policy was founded as a center for research dedicated to the study and advancement of health policy. The institute was co-sponsored by MGH and the Partners HealthCare System with the goal of improving the quality and efficiency of health care locally and nationally. David Blumenthal, MD, MPP, served as the founding Director of the Mongan Institute for Health Policy from 1998-2009, and Lisa Iezzoni, MD, MSc, served as Director from 2009-2018, when MIHP changed its name to the Health Policy Research Center.

Panel convened to determine future research directions

2015

A blue ribbon panel was commissioned to make recommendations on future research directions in the domains of population and health care delivery science. The resulting report recommended that MGH launch a comprehensive health care and population science research strategy leveraging internal synergies and external partnerships to increase the scope, impact, and reach of research at MGH.
