Research at The Mongan Institute
The Mongan Institute's research centers and programs incorporate a wide array of methods to solve the most challenging and complex problems in health care. Examples include clinical translational epidemiology, data science, predictive modeling, cost-effectiveness analysis, decision science, health disparity research, health policy, health behavior, survey research, outcomes research, intervention trials, and implementation research.
Each center is an established leader in its field and is committed to transforming health and healthcare for all and training the next generation of leaders in population and health care science. In addition to supporting research by core Mongan faculty, The Mongan Institute supports affiliated researchers and teams in the Department of Medicine and across clinical departments at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Center for Aging and Serious Illness
The Center for Aging and Serious Illness was established in the fall of 2019 that brings together researchers across MGH and the Boston community to improve the well-being of older adults and enhance the lived experience of those with advanced illnesses.

Disparities Research Unit
The Disparities Research Unit is dedicated to the exploration of imbalances in health care treatment, generating innovative health services research that impacts policy, practice, and service delivery for multicultural populations.

Health Decision Sciences Center
The HDSC is a multidisciplinary research group that seeks to foster shared decision making and implement sustainable decision aid delivery. The HDSC is committed to improving the quality of decisions made by patients and health care providers from diagnosis through treatment.

Rheumatology and Allergy Clinical Epidemiology Research Center
RACER is dedicated to advancing the knowledge and care of patients with rheumatologic disease, allergies, and immunodeficiencies by applying innovative clinical, translational, and population-based observational and experimental research methods.

Gun Violence Prevention Center
The MGH Gun Violence Prevention Center is a multidisciplinary Center at Massachusetts General Hospital dedicated to advancing research and education to prevent firearm-related violence, to mitigate the impact of firearm-related injuries, and to promote safety in homes and communities in Boston and across the U.S.

Health Promotion and Resiliency Intervention Research Center
This joint initiative between the Mass General Mongan Institute Health Policy Research Center and the Mass General Department of Psychiatry harnesses the strengths of interdisciplinary behavioral health services research to advance resiliency delivery science to promote health and wellness.

Tobacco Research and Treatment Center
The Tobacco Research & Treatment Center reduces the toll of tobacco-related disease by identifying innovative tobacco cessation treatments, promoting the delivery of effective treatment in the health care delivery system, and evaluating the impact of tobacco control public policies.
